History
KATELMAN Steel Fabrication Inc. 75 YEARS IN THE MAKING

Katelman Foundry Co. in Council Bluffs, IA, was an outgrowth of Sprague Foundry.  In 1925 Mr. Julius Katelman
purchased the assets of Sprague Foundry, including the Sprague Furnace and Sprague Land Rollers.  Improvement
on the farm implement products was made by Louis Katelman, who left the Foundry to open a hardware and
implement store during the depression.

Mr. Abe Katelman became involved in the business upon his graduation from high school and brought the Foundry
into the Structural Steel Business in the early 30’s and, for a period of time until his death in 1986, was President and
General Manager, except for three years when he served in the Seabeds during WWII.  During that period of time his
older brother, Sam Katelman, managed the Foundry which was producing casing for hand grenades among other war
essential items.  At the end of WWII the Structural Fabricating Division grew by leaps and bounds, and in the early
1970’s the Foundry was closed and only Structural, Reinforcing and Miscellaneous Steel was fabricated from that
point forward.  The area served since that time has been primarily eastern Nebraska and western and central Iowa.

In 2005, Tony Hovenga and Steve Skold (Skold Construction Services Inc.) purchased Katelman Foundry and
changed the name to Katelman Steel Fabrication Inc.  Skold Construction Services, Inc. has been providing
commercial construction products and installation for the past 16 years.
